IT Security Design Specialist

Location: National Capital Region
Security Clearance: Secret Security Clearance

Core Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the IT Security Design Specialist Level 3 include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

• Review, analyze, and/or apply: Architectural methods, frameworks, and models such as TOGAF, US government FEAP, Canadian government BTEP and GSRM, Zachman, UMM;
• Review, analyze, and/or apply a broad range of security technologies including multiple types of systems and applications architectures, and multiple hardware and software platforms, including:

1. 1. Directory Standards such as X.400, X.500, and SMTP
   2. Operating Systems such as MS, Unix, Linux, and Novell
   3. Networking Protocols (e.g., HTTP, FTP, Telnet)
   4. Network routers, multiplexers and switches
   5. Domain Name Services (DNS) and Network Time Protocols (NTP)

• Review, analyze, and/or apply Secure IT architectures, standards, communications, and security protocols such as IPSec, SSL, SSH, S-MIME, HTTPS;
• Review, analyze, and/or apply IT Security protocols at all layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) stacks;
• Review, analyze, and/or apply The significance and implications of market and technology trends in order to apply them within architecture roadmaps and solution designs. (examples: web services security, incident management, identity management); and
• Review, analyze, and/or apply Best practices and standards related to the concept of network zoning and defence in-depth principles.

Specialties could include but are not limited to: SSL, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, Telnet, S-MIME, IPSec, SSH, X.400/X.500 Directory Standards, X.509 Certificate Protocols, TCP/IP, OSI, DNS, SMTP, and NTP IMS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• A minimum of 10 years of cumulative experience in the last 15 years defining IT network, system architectures, security, and technical requirements, and designing IT networks, and/or system architectures.
• Possess one of the following professional certifications: 

1. 1. Registration/licence to practice professional engineering in Canada 
   2. CISSP from (ISC); 
   3. CISSP / ISSEP from (ISC); 
   4. CISSP / ISSAP from (ISC); 
   5. CISSP / ISSMP from (ISC); 
   6. SANS GSNA; 
   7. CRISC; 
   8. CISA; and 
   9. EAL4.
